DIVERSITY

Rationale

As an educator, it is extremely crucial that I was familiar with the diversity I will encounter in my school. My courses at Auburn gave me multiple opportunities to expand my knowledge of, and work alongside those with differences. I was able to complete my service learning at HAPIE Little Tree Preschool, and got to experience a special education classroom. I was also able to have lab experience in a rural school. All these experiences taught me the need to keep an open mind, to love equally, and always be willing to learn and listen.

SERVICE LEARNING REFLECTION 1

For my FOUN 3000 class, I completed my service learning in a preschool for students with special needs. I had never been exposed to a special needs classroom and it was a very enlightening experience.

SERVICE LEARNING REFLECTION 2

For my FOUN 3100 class, I completed my service learning hours at Wrights Mill Elementary School in a 5th grade classroom. I was responsible for tutoring students in reading or math. The students that I helped were all title nine and it was a new experience working with them.

This assignment was for FOUN 3000, we were instructed to create an activity that would foster relationships between students in your classroom. I created this activity to promote diversity in my classroom.

REPURPOSING OUR PEDAGOGIES REFLECTION

I watched and reflected on the webinar “Repurposing Our Pedagogies: Abolitionist Teaching in a Global Pandemic” which discussed how to teach during a pandemic and how to interact with the injustices in the current system.
